Global Lighting Association elects new President and Vice President

04 Dec 2017

At its November 2017 Board meeting Mr Russell Loane was elected President of the Global Lighting Association. He takes over from retiring President Mr Jan Denneman from Lighting Europe, who led the Association since its inception in 2007.

Russell Loane brings a long experience in the lighting industry to his new role. Based in Australia and active in the lighting industry for 40 years, he chaired Lighting Council Australia, the peak body for Australia's lighting industry, from its formation in 2007 until last year.

The Australian Government recognised Mr Loane's contribution to the lighting industry by conferring an Order of Australia award in the field of illuminating engineering in 2013.

Mr Loane said a high priority in his new role will be to oversee implementation of the Global Lighting Association's Strategic Roadmap for the lighting industry. The Strategic Roadmap, in final stages of preparation, sets ambitious goals for the industry based on acceptance by stakeholders of the benefits conferred by modern lighting beyond vision and energy efficiency.

Another goal is to facilitate the formation of a lighting association representing the ASEAN region.

At the same GLA Board meeting Mr Chen Yansheng, President of the China Association of Lighting Industry (CALI), was elected Vice President.
